Voices of our clients

I am involved in the construction and finishing of houses in Oregon, and Royal Foam's products are a great help. In particular, their door frames: they are very light and durable. This company can also create any custom design and modify the door surrounds to match any texture, whether it's plaster or wood. The latter is especially convenient because our customers often order Craftsman-style finishing details.

Jason Morrison

We used Royal Foam door casings in a Mediterranean-style villa in Southern California. The material withstands the sun and dry heat soo well! We installed them last year, and according to the customers, everything looks like new. I’d like to give a special shout-out to the Royal Foam specialists for not being afraid of complex custom tasks. We can pass on any client requests to them, and the specialist will clarify everything in detail, offer options, and even show a mock-up version before production. If only everyone worked like this, I swear!

George Powell

Everyone knows about smart homes, but how would you like a “smart door”? My husband jokingly called this way the door frames in our new house. We live in a coastal area - salty air, humidity, storms, you name it. And now, the door frames from Royal Foam have been standing up to all the challenges for almost a year. The most interesting thing is that these details look exactly like wood!

Frequently Asked Questions

+
Pilasters, pediments, entablature bands, door casings, and keystones frame a front entry door as a complete architectural unit. Royal Foam US produces all kits from an EPS foam core with hard-coat polyurea.
+
Yes. when the EPS core is protected by hard-coat polyurea. EPS cores are lightweight form materials. The Hard Coat Polyurea shell applied by Royal Foam US achieves Shore D 60–80 hardness, is effectively waterproof, and passes 5,000+ hours of UV exposure per ASTM G154. Expected exterior service life is 25–40+ years.
+
Yes. The EPS + hard-coat polyurea system is specifically engineered for exterior use. The polyurea shell is fully waterproof and UV-stable. The EPS core is non-hygroscopic and frost-resistant. The system performs reliably from Florida's humidity and UV intensity to freeze-thaw climates in northern regions.
+
A standard kit includes pilasters with capitals and bases, a pediment or hood, an entablature or header band, door casing and surround moldings, and a keystone where specified. All components are pre-finished, primed, and labeled by installation position.
+
Installation involves surface preparation, a dry-fit check, application of polyurea-compatible construction adhesive, positioning and pressing components into place, mechanical fastening with corrosion-resistant screws, flexible exterior caulking of joints, and a final paint or stucco finish coat. Typical installation time for a standard kit is 1–2 hours.
+
Yes. The Hard Coat Polyurea shell applied by Royal Foam US is 100% waterproof. The seamless, void-free coating ensures no moisture can reach the EPS core. Combined with the EPS core's inherent non-hygroscopic nature, the system has zero water absorption—eliminating rot, swelling, freeze-thaw cracking, and delamination.

Front Door Surround Kits for Elegant Exterior Entrances

Your front door is the first thing people see. Front door surround kits turn an ordinary entry into a genuine statement. A pediment overhead, a pair of pilasters flanking the door, and a decorative cornice tying it all together. These elements communicate quality, style, and permanence from the street. Royal Foam US manufactures custom exterior door surrounds using a proven two-component system. The product features a lightweight EPS foam core that is finished with a factory-applied hard-coat polyurea shell. The result looks like carved stone. It weighs almost nothing. And it lasts for decades.

Are you renovating a Mediterranean villa, a neoclassical estate, a Colonial home, or a modern townhouse? The right door surround kit transforms the entrance. This guide covers every aspect: what door surrounds are, which materials perform best, and how they are fabricated and installed. Let's analyze.

Front Door Surrounds Kits

What Are Front Door Surround Kits?

A front door surround kit is a ready‑made set of matching trim pieces that work together to frame your front door. Instead of buying each molding separately and hoping they fit, the kit is designed so all the parts fit perfectly.

A standard exterior door surround kit from Royal Foam US includes several parts. On the sides of the door you get pilasters or pilaster strips. They are flat or slightly rounded vertical columns that can be fluted, smooth, or rusticated, and they come with decorative capitals on top and bases at the bottom. Above the door there is a pediment or hood. It is the crowning piece. It can be triangular like a classical pediment, arched like an eyebrow hood, flat with a cornice, or a broken pediment in a French country style. Then there is an entablature or header band, a horizontal piece that connects the tops of the pilasters to the bottom of the pediment, often made up of an architrave, frieze, and cornice. Right around the door opening itself is the door casing and surround molding. It is a built‑up profile that bridges the gap between the flat wall and the projecting pilasters.

If specified, the kit also includes a keystone, which is a decorative wedge‑shaped accent at the top of an arched opening or pediment. Pilaster bases are plinth blocks and base moldings that sit at the bottom of the pilasters to visually ground them against the floor line or water table.

Door Surround Kits Improve Exterior Design

A bare door opening reads as a void in the wall. Decorative door surrounds solve the problem by adding vertical rhythm, horizontal articulation, and a clear visual hierarchy to the facade. The pilasters draw the eye upward. The pediment creates a termination point. They frame the entry as the intentional focal point of the home's front elevation.

Front door surround kits create shadow lines that change with the light throughout the day. It adds depth and visual interest that flat trim simply cannot achieve. Studies by the National Association of Realtors consistently link enhanced exterior architectural detailing with measurable increases in perceived home value and faster sale times.

Why Choose EPS Foam for Front Door Surrounds?

Every front door surround kit from Royal Foam US is built on the same engineered two-component system used across our full product range. That's why our products outperform wood, cast polyurethane, and precast stone.

EPS Foam Core

Expanded Polystyrene Foam is the internal volume material that forms the shape, depth, and three-dimensional profile of every surround component. Royal Foam US uses EPS at a standard density of 1.0–1.5 lb/ft³. This density range delivers three essential properties. EPS foam does not absorb moisture at the cellular level. It cannot swell, rot, or support mold growth. This property requires no surface treatment—it is inherent to the material. EPS retains its exact shape indefinitely. There is no warping, shrinkage, or seasonal movement. The profile crisp the day it leaves our facility stays crisp for the life of the product. A complete front door surround kit in EPS typically weighs 2–6 lb total. An equivalent precast stone kit weighs 60–150 lb. One person can install a full EPS surround kit without any lifting equipment.

EPS is the core only. It is never used as a finished exterior surface. Hard Coat Polyurea is mandatory before any EPS component is installed outdoors.

Hard Coat Polyurea Shell

It is Royal Foam's proprietary protective coating applied to every EPS component by reactive spray application. Two chemical components mix under high pressure at a controlled temperature, react instantly at the nozzle, and cure directly on the EPS surface. The result is a seamless, monolithic, void-free protective shell with outstanding adhesion to the foam.

Hard coat polyurea coating provides durable, long-lasting protection. It's much harder than typical house paint or acrylic coatings, making it resistant to scratches and dents from ladders, tools, or debris. The coating is completely waterproof and seamless, ensuring moisture never reaches the polyurea foam core. This prevents swelling, peeling, and freeze-thaw damage. It also withstands intense sunlight. It retains over 90% of its surface hardness after over 5,000 hours of UV exposure, so even the harsh Florida sun won't damage the coating. The coating flexes in temperatures ranging from -40°F to +250°F without cracking or peeling. It also resists acid rain, cleaning products, and urban air pollution without breaking down.

What Components Create a Decorative Entryway?

Pilasters are flat or semicircular columnar elements attached to the wall surface on either side of the door. They provide a vertical frame for the entrance. In classical doorways, pilasters bear capitals and bases, visually anchoring them to the floor line. In modern interiors, they are simplified to pure vertical bands. They provide a proportional frame without ornamentation.

Pediments are the crowning horizontal and overhead elements. A triangular pediment references Greek temple architecture. An arched hood pediment is common in Mediterranean and Baroque styles. A flat pediment with a projecting cornice suits Colonial and Georgian architecture. A broken pediment is characteristic of French Country and Baroque Revival design.

How Do Moldings and Cornices Complete the Design?

The entablature connects pilaster capitals to the pediment base. Here decorative moldings do their most important work. A properly composed entablature includes an architrave, a frieze, and a cornice.

Door frame moldings frame the doorway and create a three-dimensional profile. These profiles visually connect with the pilasters, creating a multi-layered, three-dimensional effect. This distinguishes the premium entryway from standard finishes.

How to Install Front Door Surround Kits?

  1. Clean the wall surface around the door opening. Remove loose paint or stucco. For painted surfaces, lightly sand contact zones for a better adhesive bond.

  2. Hold each component in position without adhesive. Verify fit, check level and plumb, and mark anchor point positions on the wall.

  3. Apply a polyurea-compatible construction adhesive to the back face of each component. Use a perimeter bead plus a zig-zag pattern across the back for full contact coverage.

  4. Press each component firmly into position. Start with pilaster bases, then pilaster shafts, then capitals, then the entablature band, then the pediment.

  5. Drive corrosion-resistant stainless or hot-dipped galvanized screws at pre-marked anchor points. Countersink screw heads.

  6. Apply flexible exterior caulk to all joints between components and at wall-perimeter edges. Fill screw holes flush. Tool all caulk lines smooth before they cure.

  7. Apply concrete sealer to protect the surface from mold and mildew.

Royal Foam US delivers all components prefabricated, ready to install, and labeled by position. It eliminates site fabrication and preparation time entirely.

Are Custom Front Door Surround Kits Available?

Can Door Surrounds Be Manufactured to Exact Dimensions?

Yes. Custom front door surround kits are the core of what Royal Foam US does. Because every component is CNC-fabricated from a digital file, there are no standard sizes and no mold constraints. We manufacture to your exact opening width, wall thickness, desired projection, capital style, and ornamental detail.

How Are Custom Architectural Designs Created?

Our production workflow for custom door surround kits follows a structured process. We convert your design input into a precision CNC file. For complex profiles, we produce a physical sample for client approval before full production begins. This eliminates costly on-site corrections. Once the sample is approved, the full kit is produced, coated, primed, and dispatched pre-assembled and ready to install.
